Welcome to Troop 273 Vernon Hills, IL

Welcome to Troop 273's Website!

Please see our "Upcoming Events" list on the right side of this page. This shows what our Troop is doing in the near term. Please contact us for more information on any event via the "Contact Us" menu selection to the left.

Our Troop meets Thursday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30pm at Christ Lutheran Church which is located at 595 Deerpath Dr. in Vernon Hills, IL. We start our meetings in August and finish the scout year in June. Our Patrol Leaders Council is the only part of the Troop that meets on the first Thursday of the month. It is at the "PLC" meeting that we also hold our Scoutmaster Conferences and Board of Reviews.
Our Troop has the philosophy that is aligned with traditional scouting ideals. That is to say that the scouting program is to allow scouts to serve others by helping to instill values in young people and, in other ways, to prepare them to make ethical choices during their lifetime in achieving their full potential. We try to follow the three aims of scouting; character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Through weekly meetings and monthly activities/camp-outs, the boys have a chance to grow into adulthood while learning life skills. The Scout Oath, Law, and Motto are what guides our scouts actions. If you are interested in a boy-led, traditional Scouting program, we welcome you to visit us. Stop by one of our meetings, or contact our Scoutmaster at scoutmaster@troop273vh.org.

The Troop Guidebook has been updated

Posted on Apr 21 2017 - 2:15pm

To access the new guidebook, go to "Files" on the left navigation and select the "Troop Guidelines" folder.

The Code of conduct has also been updated for our knife policy -

I will follow the Troop 273 knife safety and “Tote ‘n Chip” rules and regulations when using knives, saws, and axes and have the card on their person when in possession of these items. I understand use or possession of sheath knives (or any knife with a blade longer than three inches) is not allowed unless an exception has been granted by the Scoutmaster. (See knife safety in Troop Guidebook for policy).

There is a section in the back of the guidebook that describes what was changed.

Fundraising Opportunity - Camp Cards are Selling Like Hotcakes!!!

Posted on Apr 21 2017 - 1:51pm

The Entertainment book is back in a new form - Camp Cards.  Boys can sell Camp Cards which are similar to the the old Entertainment books for only $10. The Scout gets $5 in their scout account! A small portion also goes to our council to fill a hole from low popcorn sales. 500 books were ordered, so please take advantage of this fundraising opportunity. Our Troop believes all boys should earn a portion of their way and this is a great opportunity for them to do this (and earn the salesmanship merit badge). Money earned will be put in the Scouts account and he can use it for camping fees, Makajawan, High Adventure or equipment (approved by the Scoutmaster).  See Theresa Calabrese to sign up for some books - turn in for money and unused cards is 5/26.
